However, they are inferior as to the ease of truing and dressing and sharpness compared to resin bond wheels. Ultra-mate is a metal bond wheel using a special lubricant to cover this disadvantage.

Like electroplated wheels, an SL wheel is made up of super abrasive grains bonded to the surface of wheel base. Since the abrasive grains are chemically bonded, they are more firmly retained than those of electroplated wheels. The significantly protruding abrasive grains are effective for materials apt to cause clogging. Coarser abrasive grains than those applied to electroplated wheels are used.
